For the first time in twenty-two years, Cinema-kan will be reissuing Akira Ifukube's acclaimed score to "The Naughty Prince's Orochi Slaying", A.K.A. "The Little Prince and the Eight-Headed Dragon" (Toei Doga, 1963)!
This beautifully animated film, based on Shinto mythology, follows a young Susanoo who ventures on a journey to find his recently deceased mother, Izanami-no-Mikoto. The score is one of the most beloved and acclaimed scores in Akira Ifukube's career. Conducting a 104 piece orchestra, this is Akira Ifukube's largest score. More information on this score can be found at the official English Akira Ifukube website (a link is provided below).
Ifukube's score was first released on CD by Futureland in 1988 in the two disc set titled Complete Recordings: Akira Ifukube Toei Doga Film Music (LD25-5065·6). Not only did this set contain the complete score on the first disc, but it also contained a wealth of outtakes and karaoke variants on the second disc. Rounding out the second disc was the composer's score to the Toho produced Mitsubishi Pavilion exhibit during Expo '70 in Osaka. Futureland reissued the set (with a new catalog number, TYCY-5213·14) in 1992.
Nippon Columbia reissued the score yet again in 1996 a part of their massive, ten disc Toei Animation box set. While it did have the complete score with vastly improved sound, it lacked the bonus material that the Futureland releases had. Now, Cinema-kan will be reissuing this great score newly remastered with a wealth of bonus material, some of which being previously unreleased!
Titled The Naughty Prince's Orochi Slaying Original Soundtrack (CINK-51-52), this album will be released on May 23, 2018 (Japan time) and will be available at Amazon Japan and other online retailers. While not yet available to pre-order, the listing can be found below. Retail information can be found below, and further information will be provided as soon as it's available.
