Coming soon on May 31, 2017, Three Shells will be releasing Akira Ifukube: Nikkatsu Film Music Complete Works (3SCD-0032), a four disc set featuring music from all of the Nikkatsu films Ifukube scored. In total, music from fourteen films will be present with this set. According to Three Shells' webpage, there are 180 tracks spread across four discs, containing over four hours of music. Three Shells also states that master tapes from only six films have survived (discs 1 - 3). All other music (disc 4) was extracted from optical tracks, centering as much as possible, on material not containing dialogue and sound effects. This means that the music on disc four was most likely extracted straight from the films' audio tracks. However, this is much more welcomed than having no music at all. This remarkable set will retail for approximately $89.00, and is available for pre-order at Amazon Japan and HMV Japan.
